Banana Spice Brownies

I was craving dessert the other¬†night but we didn’t have the usual ingredients to whip up something really yummy. Since we always have our pantry and freezer stocked with bananas I knew they had to be the base for the dessert…and thus the¬†Banana Spice Brownies were born!

You’ll need:

  • 1 1/4 stick of softened butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 mashed bananas
  • 1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 3/4 cups cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg

To make:

Cream together butter, sugars and vanilla. Whip in eggs and stir in the mashed bananas. Continue to stir in the flour, cocoa, baking powder and spices. Grease a 9X13 pan and bake at 325 for 45 minutes.

Serving tip: I typically prefer my deserts cold (or even better, frozen!) but I find that these brownies are best when eaten warm from the oven, or reheated later in the microwave.
